Our Favorite Family-Tested-and-Approved Weeknight Suppers
The universe of wholesome, quick, weeknight suppers children will actually deign to eat can at times feel stiflingly small. How many times in a row can a person make turkey tacos without their love of cooking withering bit by ground turkey bit?
When my weeknight dinner routine begins to feel tiresome, I hunt for fresh material — a promising new cookbook, a recipe suggestion from a dear friend, maybe even a list of family-tested-and-approved recipes from a trusted content creator.
Right. Noted.
The following are, in no particular order, the Priss & Vinegar Weeknight Supper Greatest Hits, the recipes I cook again & again (& again) that my children actually like, all linked below. Bookmark this post for nights when you can’t deal with the dreaded “What’s for dinner?” question, because friends, I’ve got you 🤍
Chicken Tinga Tacos (What’s Gaby Cooking)
Penne Alla Vodka (Barefoot Contessa)
Chicken Katsu (Serious Eats) PS, don’t bother making the sauce because kids won’t eat it & Bull-Dog Tonkatsu Sauce is just as good.
Pizza Chicken (Priss & Vinegar)
Shaking Beef (Slanted Door, by way of NYT Cooking)
One-Pan Pasta (Martha Stewart)
Pork Banh Mi Burgers (The Modern Proper) PS, I often substitute ground chicken.
White Chicken Chili (The Pioneer Woman)
Zuni Cafe’s Roasted Chicken (Zuni Cafe, by way of Smitten Kitchen)
Creamy Parmesan Polenta (America’s Test Kitchen)
Crunchy Baked Turkey Tacos (The Defined Dish)
Homemade Pizza Dough (Alison Roman)
Thai Lettuce Cups (If you buy one new cookbook, let it be Melissa Clark’s “Dinner”) PS, hold the chiles 🙄
Momofuku’s Bo Ssam (NYT Cooking)
Breakfast for Dinner! Perfect Buttermilk Pancakes (NYT Cooking)
