As we mentioned a few weeks ago, we recently had a very special visit from our dear friend and wedding photographer, Leigh Miller. She was kind enough to take some time out of her very busy schedule to snap some cozy family photographs at our home. We just got our first peek at the results and could not be more delighted! Leigh’s deftness with composition and color really is remarkable, and it never ceases to amaze us how she pulls these perfect little moments out of thin air. (And yes, the Little Lady really is completely obsessed with our opera length pearls. That’s our girl.)
Another Oscars trend we adored: navy! Of the zillions of sequined gowns gracing the red carpet, we were fondest of the navy incarnations, of which Leslie Mann’s was our absolute favorite. Her Roberto Cavalli gown fit beautifully and was completely appropriate for the event as well as her age. (Don’t even get us started on Jane Seymour’s gown: the garish red, the plunging deep V-neckline, the exposed bony clavicle. It was a festival of WRONG.)
In response to some recent, ahem, inquiries, let us say that we are decidedly not pregnant at the moment. (Sorry, Mom.) The inspiration for our new “Welcoming the Stork!” series truly does come from our glowing bevy of expectant friends. While we certainly hope to make the Little Lady a big sister someday, chasing her little monkey butt around is about all we can handle at present, thankyouverymuch.
In a recent head-to-head chocolate chip cookie bake-off in the P&V kitchen, Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook handily defeated The Best Recipe. It is not without some angst that we report our findings, as our cooking loyalties are equally divided between Martha and the lovable nerds of America’s Test Kitchen. However, there was truly no contest: Martha’s chocolate chunk cookies are the ideal combination of buttery flavor, thin and crispy edges, and slight chewiness at the center. Our esteemed tasting panel (the Hus-b) said they’re the best chocolate chip cookies he’s ever tasted. (Again, sorry, Mom.)
